Shiny Dew
People think my life is clean and easy,
All's provided and the rest is free.
If every picture turned out just as painted
Everything would be all right with me.
Refrain:
Give me green, give me blue,
Starlit skies, and, moonlight too.
Give me trees, and give me water,
Every morning shiny dew.
But cold winds blow the fields of love and labour;
Diesel fumes and dust are all I breathe.
My just reward is merely an existence,
Although the mouths are countless that I feed.
I don't envy all the fruits that people savour:
Just one or two would fill the need in me.
The simple things in life are all I ask for:
That doesn't mean to say that I receive.
