Rosemary Lane
I served my apprentice in Rosemary Lane
And kept the good will of my master and dame
A sailor came by with me wanted to lie
And thus it began, all my misery
The sailor was drowsy and hung down his head
He asked for a candle to light him to bed
I led him thereto as anotehr might do
He said "Pretty maid, come my bed now into."
A foolish young maiden I thouth it no harm
To lie down beside him and keep his back warm
But what happened there I will never declare
I would that this night lasted seven years
So early next morning the sailor arose
And into my apron three guineas he throws
Saying "Take of my store, aye and five and six more."
A thousand times I that is over deplore.
And if it's a girl she shall sit at her ease,
And if it's a boy he shall sail the salt seas
With his sweetly little shoes and his buttons and bows
He'll climb the high rigging whene'er the wind blows,
He'll climb the high rigging whene'er the wind blows
